Dr Elin Charles-Edwards graduated from her first degree in Geography with honours, from UQ in 2004.

Elin went on to complete her PhD with UQ, was then employed as post-doctoral fellow undertaking a range of pure and applied research in demography and population geography. She currently holds a lecturing position in Human Geography with GPEM.

“I wanted to study at UQ because the School of Geography, Planning and Environmental Management is host to world-leading researchers in the field of migration and human spatial mobility,” she said.

“Not only was I able to undertake applied research while completing my studies, giving me breadth as well as depth of understanding in the field, but I was also given the opportunity to travel to a number of international conferences to present my research including the XXVI IUSSP International Population Conference, Marrakech, Morocco and the 5th International Conference on Population Geographies, Dartmouth, USA”.

“My research interests include understanding temporary population mobility, the estimation of non-resident populations and cross-national comparisons of internal migration,” she said.

“I also teach a second-year course in population geography called Global Population Issues".
